The International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD), established under is a global funding mechanism designed to support the growth and sustainability of cultural and creative industries in developing countries. The programme focuses on fostering long-term structural change by strengthening policies, institutions, and professional capacities within the cultural sector.
The primary purpose of the IFCD is to empower governments, civil society organizations, and cultural institutions to create environments where diverse cultural expressions can thrive. This includes supporting the development of policies and measures that directly impact the creation, production, distribution, and accessibility of cultural goods and services.
Key objectives include enhancing cultural governance, building institutional and human capacity, and promoting sustainable creative economies. The fund also emphasizes inclusion, supporting opportunities for women, youth, and marginalized communities while contributing to broader development goals such as poverty reduction and economic growth.
Projects funded under the IFCD span multiple creative sectors, including film, music, design, media arts, publishing, and performing arts. Since 2010, the IFCD has invested US$13.6 million across 175 projects in 77 developing countries. The initiative supports both policy-level interventions and capacity-building efforts that enable creative professionals and organizations to scale their impact.
Overall, the programme plays a critical role in strengthening cultural ecosystems globally, particularly in the Global South, by enabling innovation, expanding market access, and fostering international collaboration in the creative economy.
